He is also Associate Editor of Behaviour & Information Technology, a highly regarded journal for research on human interactions with information and communications technology. Kim holds a doctoral degree in Human–Computer Interaction (under the supervision of Prof. S. Shyam Sundar) from Sungkyunkwan University and bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Film & Media Studies (under the guidance of Prof. Larry L. Jacoby) from Washington University in St. Louis.

Kim investigates the sociopsychological antecedents and consequences of humantechnology interaction by examining how humans respond to various technological affordances. Specifically, he explores the process by which these affordances present in digital media influence the behavioral and psychological outcomes of technology-mediated communication. Kim also develops and validates theoretical paradigms in which human interactions with the latest emerging technologies, such as the Internet of Things, wearable devices, autonomous vehicles, and generative AI, are perceived as socially meaningful, ethical, and persuasive.

Kim has received a total of USD 333,000 in research grants as the sole principal investigator and authored over 100 peer-reviewed research articles, including single- and first-authored publications in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Human Communication Research, New Media & Society, and the Journal of Business Research. His works have been cited nearly 6,000 times and featured in major international news outlets, including TIME, NBC News, Fox News, and The Guardian, as well as in local media in more than 15 countries.
